FC Barcelona 2021 Summer Transfer window - Departures Recap

Frustration and desperation seem to haunt FC Barcelona yet again this season, as the starting point of the season, the transfor window could be counted as arguably the worst transfer season for Barca ever. Not to mention the fact that the Cules had to watch their talisman as well as the greatest player to ever grace the Camp Nou, leave Barcelona in tears this season.

Messi’s departure, as expected,  has made things unstable at Barca. It is not much of a surprise to see the difference of team play and the level of quality play drop when he is no longer on your side. But that is far from the biggest upset for Barca this summer.

Antonnie Griezmann joined ex-Barcelona forward Luiz Suarez on loan at his former club Atletico Madrid, where he scored a mouth-watering 133 goals in his previous stint. Barca’s financial debt strongly influenced this decision as Antonnie Griezmann was one of the highest earners since 2019, signing for 120 million euros. Although the striker wasn’t in his best form for Barcelona, he is currently one of the best strikers in the job. With Messi not in the attack leading Barca, Griezmann was easily the man to play that role as we see him doing the same for France on the International stage. However, Barcelona signed the Dutchmen Memphis Depay to lead the attack but most fans are in doubt whether Depay will be able to do so, predicting that he will yet again fail in a different league with a different style, as we saw of him at Manchester United before. Questions are beginning to arise around him with the recent and frequent failures of Barcelona as a team.

And to add to that list, Barcelona’s 65 million Euro signing, Miralem Pjanic was yet another failed transfer for Barcelona last season. Barcelona exchanged 23-year-old Arthur for the 30-year-old maestro at Juventus, but it proved to be that Arthur was the best and most natural fit to Barcelona’s tempo.  Barcelona loaned Pjanic this window, after basically benchwarming the entire time, to Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig, making the fans think once again if their club can even make any right decision regarding transfers at least a few times?
