Latest updates about Lenglet and Umtiti's future at Barcelona

According to reports, FC Barcelona wants to sell the two French defenders, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti in the winter transfer window. Barcelona’s excessive wage bill is the main reason for this decision as they continue to find ways out of their debt.

Clement Lenglet was already offered 15 million euros to join Serie A side Roma this summer, but Barcelona didn’t agree on letting go of the defender for less than 25 million euros. Lenglet’s future has been uncertain for a while now, but he stated that he can’t see himself leaving Barcelona. Lenglet has been a regular for Barcelona throughout, with 137 appearances for the Catalan Giants. But his last season campaign has been fairly poor among the three years he had played for Barca. Lenglet quite notably has made several errors in crucial moments putting him under more and more pressure. Even though the Copa del Rey glory was a consolation for Barcelona’s rough ride last season, Lenglet was not quite stabilized yet. The center-back has played only 4 out of Barca’s 8 league games this season and has lesser average game time on the pitch.

Barcelona’s motives in letting Samuel Umtiti go is quite clear as the center-back was left out this season as per the decision of Ronald Koeman. Umtiti has been in the best of form for the last couple of seasons as he continues to struggle through his injuries. But amidst all speculation, Umtiti decided to remain in Barca even after the summer transfer window, believing that he deserves his spot on the team sheet and showing his loyalty to Barcelona.

Whatever the case, It looks like Barcelona will be wanting to sell both Lenglet and Umtiti as both of these players were mostly underwhelming the last season as well. Maybe Barcelona will have to reorganize their defense if they really want to make a change this season.
