With Copa del Rey around the corner, the fans are curious about Barcelona’s latest opponents in the competition. The Culers will be going into the Copa del Rey Round of 32 head-to-head with a third division Spanish side this Wednesday, in the name of “CF Intercity”. So, who is this new challenger?
The Valencian Community’s San Juan de Alicante is home to the Spanish football team Club de Futbol Intercity (CF Intercity). The team competes in Spain’s third division of football, the Primera División RFEF – Group 2. Their home ground is the Estadio Antonio Solana, which seats around 2,500 people.
Intercity was formed in 2017 by reforming the structure of GCD Sant Joan d’Alacant. The same month, Intercity became the first Spanish football club to list itself on the stock market.
In 2019, after becoming regional champions, Intercity got promoted to Tercera División. They qualified into the Copa del Rey for the first time. CF Intercity got off to a dream start, beating UD Gran Tarajal in the preliminary rounds, but unfortunately lost to Athletic Bilbao 0 – 3 in the first round.
