Xavi thinks losing ‘finer details’ is why Barcelona failed in Europe this season. Let’s investigate further at what Xavi and Ten Hag said during the post-match press conference.
Xavi’s Explanation on Defeat
Barcelona manager Xavi believes that players failed to control the “finer details” needed to succeed. He stated “Matches in Europe are decided by small details and we have not controlled them. That’s why we’re out,” accepting club’s elimination from European competitions in ongoing season.
He explained further that we could’ve dominated the game but we didn’t. “It’s a shame because the team has shown its face and deserved more. They are physically very strong. We could have dominated the game more,” Xavi reflected.
Barcelona’s Future Plans
During the press conference, Xavi talked about the current season as well as his future plans for uplifting our game.
He believes that we had a better 2022/23 season than the previous season and that they will try to be more competitive in the upcoming season. “The feeling is that we have been much better than last season, but we have lost to Bayern [Munich], Inter [Milan], Manchester. We have not measured up. We have to try to be more competitive and make an important self-criticism to try again next season,” said Xavi.
Moreover, he said “There are two titles left and we want to win them because they are very important for the club,” expressing his desire to win titles for his beloved club.

It’s true that we had another miserable season in Europe despite our dominant run in domestic competitions. Whatever happened, we should now concentrate solely on Laliga and the Copa del Rey.
On Sunday, we will face Almeria, with an eight-point cushion at the top of the table. On Thursday, we encounter our archrivals, Real Madrid, in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals. That’s why it is important to keep our heads high, even after the defeat against Manchester United, as Madrid will be bolstered by their 5-2 victory over Liverpool.
Will Xavi be able to go 3/3 in domestic competitions?
