A sensational 4-2 win at the RCDE stadium at the weekend crowned FC Barcelona as the Laliga champions for the 27th time. Blaugrana entered this fixture needing only 2 points within the remaining games to seal the trophy but a commanding performance from Xavi’s side secured the coverted trophy on the night in Espanyol’s home soil while sending the bitter rivals closer to the relegation zone.
FC Barcelona managed to win Laliga after 3 years which they last won in 2019 when Lionel Messi was still at the club.This is the first Laliga title after 1998/99 which FC Barcelona won without Lionel Messi.
A strong first half from FC Barcelona saw the Catalans take a 3-0 lead heading towards halftime with Lewandowski scoring a brace and Alejandro Balde scoring his first Barcelona goal.
In the second half Jules Kounde managed to score his first Barcelona goal while Espanyol scored twice in hope of a comeback but FC Barcelona held on till the end whistle to grab the bragging rights of the derby and the Laliga title.

Despite conceding 4 goals on the night The Mexican Center Back C.Montes managed to record 2 successful tackles and win a foul in order to reduce the damage on the night. Although Joselu and Puado scored for Espanyol, the efforts of César Montes must be appreciated and BarcelonaLatest decided to honor him in this category.
Super Luuk – Jordi Alba
The match winner in the previous game, Jordi Alba entered the match in the second half and managed to play for 27 minutes winning a foul and providing some great crosses to the box.
El Tiburón – Andreas Christensen
The Danish center back once again had a decent shift at the back recording 2 tackles,1 foul won and 2 clearences. Christensen arrived at Barcelona on a free transfer and he has been influential since day 1 for the Blaugrana, now the Dane has managed to win two titles in his first season and he is known as an untouchable player adored by both fans and the management of the club.

El Cerebro – Pedri and Frenkie De Jong
In the title clinching fixture, the Barcelona youngster managed to play 89 minutes recording an assist while taking two shots along the way, After some below the par performances from the youngster, the former golden boy winner had one of his best games this season at the weekend.
The Dutch maestro Frenkie De Jong also managed to record and assist with an inch perfect long ball to set up Jules Kounde for his maiden Barcelona goal. Frenkie managed to record 2 dribbles and 3 recoveries against Espanyol which made this decision a hard one for the BarcelonaLatest team. So the best midfielder of the game “El Celebro” goes to the both midfield magicians of Barça.
El Pistolero – Robert Lewandowski
Lewandowski is the first Barça player to score 30+ goals across all competitions in his debut season since R9.
The polishman managed to score a brace in the derby and moved past 20 goals in the laliga season. Lewandowski leads the Pichichi race with 21 Laliga goals, ahead by 4 from second placed Karim Benzema with 4 games to go. Robert Lewandowski hit the 30 goal mark for the season in all competitions becoming the second player to achieve the milestone in his debut season for Blaugrana after the Brazilian great Ronaldo.
La Pulga – Alejandro Balde
The young left back had a game to remember when he scored his first goal for Barcelona and managed to record an assist as well. No other 19 year old have recorded more assists this season than Alejandro Balde (7). After Pedri and Gavi won the previous two golden boy awards, Alejandro Balde is on track to win it this season representing FC Barcelona.
Agreement closed to renew Balde’s contract until 2027 with a €1Bn release clause. Only the official approval of the club’s viability plan is pending to seal everything. @ferrancorreas
After disappointing exits from European Competitions, FC Barcelona managed to win 2 domestic titles out of the possible 3 in this season and broke the 3 year league drought to bring back the trophy to the Camp nou. After winning 8 league titles as a player Xavi now won his first Laliga title as the manager of FC Barcelona ending the season on a high note ( still 4 games remaining in the league).
In his first full season Xavi managed to defeat Real Madrid in the Spanish super cup final and won the Laliga title, with more depth and decent reinforcements in the next season Xavi must try to take this team towards Champions League glory. His record in the European competitions has been disappointing upto this day and the Barcelona gaffer should do everything in his power to reverse the situation in the next season.
